What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, often abbreviated as BJJ, is a martial art that focuses entirely on ground fighting. The goal is to gain control over your opponent and make them submit through joint locks and chokes. BJJ is based on traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo but has evolved over the years into a unique and highly effective martial art.
Around 1915, a Japanese judo champion named Maeda brought his knowledge to Brazil. From there, the Gracie family began to further develop and popularize the sport. Thanks to their successful participation in tournaments such as the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and PRIDE, BJJ established itself worldwide as one of the most dominant martial arts. The techniques of BJJ were quickly adopted and have had a lasting impact on modern combat sports, including MMA.
During BJJ training, practitioners wear a Gi (traditional uniform). In addition, we also offer No-Gi training, where participants train without a Gi, similar to the attire often worn in MMA.
